Dear Alumni and Friends,
Greetings from Hamilton Hall! As the academic year comes to a close, it is my pleasure to share with you the spring issue of our newsletter, the Department Historian. I hope you will take some time to read and learn about all the exciting things that are happening in the department.
This has been an exciting year for UNC historians! They have successfully pursued research; published impressive books, articles, and research papers; taught and taken innovative classes; and been heralded for their work. As you can read in this issue, for instance, Emeritus Professor William Ferris won two Grammy Awards! We also feature articles about undergraduates finding success after graduation, graduate students pursing valuable summer internships, and new initiatives in teaching and scholarship by faculty members. Much of what we do would be impossible without the generous support of our friends and alumni. Last year, private support enabled us to:
- Recruit and retain outstanding professors in key areas of specialty;
- Fund groundbreaking research for undergraduates, graduate students, and faculty;
- Send students and faculty to present their research at national and international conferences; and
- Develop and sustain historical resources for the general public.
